I had a good laugh at the Daily Prompt today, because in seeing the word I just imagined a toddler with fists clenched at the sides, face red and lips pursed together while stomping a foot and screaming, “I’m just so angry!” I don’t know why I find it so funny, maybe because my kids do it so often, only without the words. Especially my eldest, oh my goodness is she a little temper flaring child. Don’t get me wrong, I get angry from time to time myself, but for some reason when kids get angry, it just… It makes it twice as adorable. There is something about a kid going through those angry emotions that makes me laugh, smile, and want to make them dance around with me.
I already know I’m weird, so you can just hold those fingers, silly readers. I am probably as goofy as I am because of my mom. I remember when I was a kid, she used to play specific songs just for me if I was in a foul mood before school. One of my favorites was Flying Purple People Eater, and gosh there were so many others that I can’t fully recall the names of. You see, my mom taught me at a young age, a bad mood doesn’t have to make for a bad day. Often enough when I’d wake up cranky and with a fury that could probably of metaphorically melted to the earths core (in my mind, at least) my beloved mommy would play some wild crazy song that would just brighten my world and make me dance all over the place! I just wish I had that collection of songs, and some extras! Would be nice to incorporate that into my children’s lives, I know I benefited from it!
There really isn’t, in my eyes, a reason to be angry. I know I’m guilty of anger from time to time, like about world subjects like the mistreatment of others, socialism, social justice warriors, and feminism, but really. If you’re angry over something you can change, then change it. If you’re angry over circumstances that you can’t change, you’re going to have to come to terms with the fact that you’re angry over something you’ve no control of. Being angry over something you have no control over is silly, because being angry isn’t going to make it better and it only extends a hand to further ruin your day and cause issues in your relationships. If you’ve got a bad temper over something you can change, being angry isn’t going to fix it. You’ve got to get up, put a smile on your face, and devise a plan to fix whatever your little temper tantrum is all about!
So put on a brave face, greet the world, and don’t forget to smile! Smiling is contagious! Just like a yawn.
